Fashion Friday: Meet Marissa Webb

Spring 2016 - White Floral

Spring 2016 – White Floral

A quick glance at our weather forecast next week tells us that spring is on its way (even as it threatens to snow today)…  Temps will be climbing into the high 50’s so we’re hoping to break out some pretty florals to celebrate the sunny days.  One designer we’ll definitely be investing in this season is Marissa Webb.  With an FIT education and over a decade at J. Crew in various design roles including Head of Womenswear and Accessories Design, this Korean born and American raised designer knows how to blend elements of nature and architecture by mixing highly structured pieces with soft and feminine accents.

Spring 2016 – Yellow Silk

The new Spring 2016 collection marries leather, lace, cotton and silk for a modern mash-up that looks both effortless and elegant.  We love the floral prints (of course!) as well as the bright colors and sophisticated textures.

Juxtaposing high fashion with everyday wearability is not new but we think Marissa takes the concept to a new level by pairing grungy plaids with feminine silhouettes and black leather jackets with long lace skirts.

Fabulous Finds

Fashionable Find: Pim + Larkin

Terrific Tattered Tweed Jacket

It’s already February so it’s not too soon to think about your spring and summer wardrobe…  Although who knows when spring will come this year since our erratic weather has given us temperatures ranging from 10 to 55 degrees in the past week!  We’re already sprucing up our outfits with some great buys on Piperlime and are absolutely loving the fresh, young vibe of Pim + Larkin (we’re not the only ones since Rachel Zoe and Olivia Palermo include some of their pieces in their Editor’s Picks.)

Fab Flower Necklace

While we’ve already worn the tattered tweed jacket a number of times (adding the flower bauble necklace as a pop of color), we’ll have to wait for warmer weather to wear this pretty peplum top

and lace and chiffon dress.

Lovely Lace

And we can’t wait for even warmer summer days to break out this colorblock maxi dress on the beach…

Marvelous Maxi

paired with this fly bee bangle!

Don’t you just love finding new brands to brandish?!  Do you have a favorite new find you’d like to share?  Wishing you a fun and fashionable weekend.

Spring Fashion… the Highs and Lows

Coveting This Closet!

It’s spring again and what better time to clean out those closets… a feat that always has its highs and lows (as in, that pair of color jeans bought last year are still in style (a high!) but you’ll have to lose that winter weight before you can zip them up again (a definite low!))  We always schedule a trip to the mall once we’re done and this year’s fabulous floral fashions are sure to make us smile (a high!) until we see the prices (a low!)  Thankfully, we’ve done our homework and uncovered some fashionable finds that won’t break the bank…

… to Frances Hodgson Burnett for penning The Secret Garden (one of our childhood favorites) which, in turn, inspired Mulberry‘s Spring 2011 collection and advertising campaign.  Who wouldn’t want to be Lindsey and Nimue, captured so beautifully by Tim Walker?  Each time we come across these gorgeous ads filled with fabulous fashion and florals, we can’t help but think that spring is on the way!

Friday Night “Brights”

What do you get when the jet stream shifts north?  A warm balmy day, the likes of which we haven’t seen since last fall!  The snow is melting (though the streets are still lined with “snirt” (snow-dirt)) and there’s a feeling of “brightness” in the air…  Could spring be just around the corner?

Petal To The Metal

Who could forget last fall’s images of Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 2010 fashion show which took place in a huge barn built in the center of the Grand Palais replete with bales of hay and rustic wood beams… The models walked the runway in fabulous double-C clogs, slightly tousled, with straw stuck to their clothes and sporting smirky smiles and temporary tattoos.  According to Vogue, the show “was a bumper harvest of everything that is chicly tattered, beribboned, and gloriously made about Chanel, as well as the season’s sole experience to make the anxiety and earnestness around fashion evaporate, to make it seem like fantastic fun again.”

And while we think wheat ears and clogs are great barnyard looks, we thought it might be fun to pair one of Chanel’s gorgeous spring outfits from head to toe with the newest in petals and metals.
