Heavenly and out of this world… We’re still starstruck from the Oscars last night (and always awed by Miles Redd’s talent!)

It goes without saying that we’re huge fans of House Beautiful and read our issue cover to cover each month. The interiors always inspire us, as does the sage advice doled out by all the designers. One thing we never miss is the quote quietly placed on the Contents pages in the upper right hand corner and now we’ve turned this feature into a new series called “That’s What He/She Said!” First up is Miles Redd who said in the February 2014 issue: “Think of a house like a canvas, and you’re holding the paintbrush, making dabs of color that run through the rooms.”
Dabs of color are exactly what we need since it’s snowing (again!) so here are some pretty painterly palettes to brighten your day!

Can you guess where we’re going with thispost? Just in case you haven’t heard, the very talented and debonair Miles Redd is coming to the Stamford’s Antique and Artisan Center tonight for a book signing and we’re beyond excited to meet him!
Known for his glamorous yet cozy interiors, Miles has been on his own since 1998 after learning about antiques and interior design from John Rosselli and Bunny Williams and trying his hand at painting in Lacoste, France.
We’re looking forward to pouring over Miles’ new book, The Big Book of Chic, which is filled with a broad range his eclectic interiors and is sure please. How can you not love someone who doles out entertaining advice like “Have a stiff drink before anyone arrives. If you’re having fun, everyone will have fun” or decorating advice like “Buy the best and you only cry once!”
P.S. How about we share Miles’ style with you and give away an autographed copy of his book? All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below or send us an email at TheBuzz.Giveaway@gmail.com with “Miles Redd” in the subject line by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2012 and we’ll choose a lucky winner on Monday, October 29. Additional entries will be given if you “like” us on Facebook or mention the giveaway on Twitter @DianeJamesHome.

The 20th anniversary issue of Elle Decor just arrived and it is gorgeous! A beautiful Malibu home designed by Michael Smith (one of our favorite designers and clients!) graces the cover and pages, and the wonderful retrospective of two decades of timeless rooms is not to be missed. We love the new elledecor.com feature “Quote of the Week”, a compilation of simple truths from top decorators, architects and “savvy” homeowners and thought we would include some here.
