Giveaway: Tom Scheerer Decorates

A Holiday Treat!

A Holiday Treat!

When talented interior designer Tom Scheerer is not flying off to the sunny beaches of Maine, Nantucket, Florida or The Bahamas, he’s relaxing in the Hamptons at our mother’s club.  She’s a huge fan of his, as are we – that’s why it was really exciting for us to meet him in person last week at the Antiquarius Holiday Boutique where he was signing copies of his new book, Tom Scheerer Decorates.  Soft-spoken and elegant, he’s was exactly how we had imagined him!

With a style that he describes as “cheerful”, “no nonsense” and a touch “underbaked”, Tom’s interiors are as fresh and relaxing as the locations where his clients reside.  His book is filled with beautiful rooms, each with its own comfortable character that is so laid back, it’s hard to call the space “decorated.”  As David Netto (another member of mother’s club) wrote in The New York Times about Tom’s philosophy, “It’s about celebrating real life, and remembering that the chicest thing of all, when you can have whatever you want, is to be yourself.”

Giveaway: The Well-Traveled Home

Book Your Trip!

Book Your Trip!

With our childhood spent browsing Belgian brocantes (a.k.a junk stores) and traveling around markets in Asia and Europe, we’ve collected many treasures that are now displayed in our homes.  Each has its own story and together, these collected pieces create a sense of worldliness and adventure that perhaps our daily lives do not necessarily reflect.

Terrace Treasures

Tranquil Terrace

That’s why we couldn’t wait to review Sandra Espinet’s beautiful new book, The Well-Traveled Home.  This California and Mexico based designer has lived the life of a “transcontinental nomad” and the experience has allowed her to capture the “evolving interplay of the domestic and the international”, all the while creating alluring and comfortable spaces for her clients.

Bedroom Blues

Bedroom Blues

Leafing through the pages of Sandra’s book was like taking a mini-vacation – we were transported into the luxurious homes of those who live the well-traveled life where a French rococo mirror reflects a bed made with colorful Fortuny fabrics and where a Guatemalan cabinet is accessorized with Coptic crosses and Moroccan urns.  Best of all, Sandra tells the stories behind her best finds and shares some of her favorite shopping haunts and design tips with her readers.

We’re so excited to be able to share Sandra’s book with you and she’s generously offered to send a signed copy to one of our readers (for you to keep or to give at the holidays!)  All you need to do is leave a comment below or email us at thebuzz.giveaway@gmail.com with “The Well-Traveled Home” in the subject line.  You’ll have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 17, 2013 to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday.

Giveaway: Black & White by Celerie Kemble

Black & White by Celerie Kemble

Who knew that behind the beautiful interiors of the superbly talented Celerie Kemble, there lay a slightly darker side… one who embraces black and white decor?

Celerie Kemble - Kips Bay 2011

Celerie Kemble - Manhattan House

In her new book, Black & White (and a bit in between) , Celerie shows us that rooms devoid of bright hues (a la Dorothy Draper and Madeleine Castaign) are as elegant and timeless as their more colorful counterparts.  With more than 350 gorgeous color photographs of her own work and others, Celerie proves that a limited palette is anything but!

Lela Rose's Apartment

Working with Celerie on several of her projects has only heightened our admiration for her unique style and we’re thrilled to give away an autographed copy of her book today.  A great present for someone who loves interior design (or you could just keep it for yourself!)

Your Home Should Make You Happy!

It seems that Jonathan Adler‘s happy chic design and bold, beautiful colors were being celebrated everywhere this week.  From the introduction of his two new books…

We love the fact that Liz and Jonathan came together once again (he decorated her Westchester home, too!) to create a space that celebrates a child’s innate sense of style and design.  Seeing all these relaxed and colorful interiors remind us that decorating should be filled with fun!

Meeting Charles Faudree

Carolyn and Charles Faudree

Carolyn and Charles Faudree

Saying that we’re huge fans of the charming and delightful Charles Faudree would be quite the understatement – we have all his books, love his French Country style and share his belief that flowers are the single most important decorating accessory.  So when Mr. Faudree came to town last week for a book signing at Pierre Deux in Westport, we were there with bells on and floral gift in hand!

Once our copy of Country French Florals & Interiors had been signed (for our mother, of course!) “May your home be filled with joy, much happiness and a few flowers.  Enjoy the good life!”, we stayed and chatted about Mr. Faudree’s love of flowers (as a child he helped his grandmother with her cutting garden), his long-time friendship with David Easton (we can’t divulge the antics and pranks these two played on each other!) and his fabulous interior design business and store in Tulsa, Oklahoma (which we hope to visit the next time we head west.)

Book Report: Nancy Corzine: Glamour at Home

Of all the gifts opened over the holidays, one of our favorites is the new book from our fabulous client, Nancy Corzine.  We sadly missed her appearance at Bergdorf Goodman in December but were so pleased to receive Glamour at Home for Christmas.  Having personally worked with Nancy on several projects and with our flowers gracing her Palm Beach and Southampton stores, we know how glamorous her style can be.

With her own gorgeous line of to-the-trade fabrics, furnishings and lighting, and her refined elegance, Nancy creates environments that are luxurious yet very livable.  While her palette tends toward the paler shades, her signature accessories – a gilded mirror, a crystal sphere, a patterned pillow – add the perfect dash of glitz.
