Hollywood is abuzz this week about Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in the new biopic hitting theaters in December. The official trailer was released on Wednesday and it’s haunting atmosphere is goosebump worthy. With rave reviews from critics who saw the movie at the Venice Film Festival last month, some are saying that Natalie’s performance is Oscar-worthy.
Like many of you, we have a special place in our hearts when it comes to Jackie. Not only does our mother look like her (and we’re often reminded of this!) but one of us actually worked as Jackie’s intern one summer at Doubleday. As a rising college sophomore, there wasn’t much to do at this famous publishing house except read a lot of manuscripts and proofread galleys. And, of course, help Jackie with finalizing the plans for Caroline’s wedding which was held that July.
It was a summer to remember and Jackie was a wonderful, and glamorous, boss. Her quick wit and incredible work ethic made assisting her a true pleasure, and she was adored by the authors she edited. It’s no surprise she ended up first at Viking, then at Doubleday, given her passion for books and she published so many well regarded works during her 20 year career.
Needless to say, we can’t wait to see Natalie’s Jackie and compare her to the “real deal”!

There is only one Jackie – this movie looks incredible. I definitely want to hear stories about your internship when we next see each other (which will hopefully be soon!) xoxo
