Let’s Go Shopping: WA

WA's Harmonious Garden

WA's Harmonious Garden

As you stroll down the busy and often very colorful Commercial Street in the center of Provincetown, MA, you might hear the tinkle of Japanese wind chimes if you listen very closely.  And if you (like us!) follow the enchanting sound, you’ll find yourself walking down a narrow alley lined with potted apple espaliers and cattails and into the most serene and lovely garden belonging to WA.

We stumbled upon WA during our week on the Cape and couldn’t help but be drawn into it’s peaceful world.  WA means “harmony” in Japanese and that is exactly the feeling you get when you step into this beautiful store filled with a broad range of home accessories from different cultures and styles.  Tom Rogers created this haven of Asian design in 1996 after a ten-year career as a floral designer in Boston, and his artful approach is seen in his natural, harmonious displays of carefully edited merchandise.

We were delighted to see framed beetles and butterflies by our friend Christopher Marley (of Pheromone), luxury scents by Esteban Paris and table settings by Chilewich layered among the antique furniture and art sourced by Tom from China, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia.

Of course, all the kids wanted to do was to run their fingers through the flowing wall fountains – be warned, this is definitely one of those stores where you’ll be saying “Don’t touch!” every minute or two!  Better yet, explore this store without the kids and emerge relaxed, recharged and revitalized… and hopefully, having bought a little harmony for your home.

A true test of finding harmony for me would be visiting that zenful spot with my children.
I love how children want to touch everything, especially water.
Love the color of those orange doors.
