Insta Find: #CandyMinimal

Before and After (Jelly Bean Filter)

Have you heard of the #CandyMinimal photo movement?  Well, neither had we until we stumbled upon a blog post by the creative gals at A Beautiful Mess about the movement’s founder, Matt Crump, and the new filter pack he developed for their app, A Color Story.  Matt has made a name for himself in this genre and ended up as one of TIME magazine’s top 50 Instagram photographers to follow in 2015.

#CandyMinimal is a super saturated photo style that takes a simple picture (ergo, minimal) and infuses it with bright or pastel candy-colored hues like bubblegum pink or banana yellow.  This type of filter is best used on images of single objects like buildings, flowers, food, even candy!  And make sure there’s plenty of negative space around the subject to create contrast.

Since we’re novices at this, we tried our hand at using the Candy Minimal pack on a Victorian building we shot in Carlsbad.  Jelly Bean brought out the blues, don’t you agree?

Blame our California state of mind but we think #CandyMinimal is so much fun and why not add a little colorful whimsy to our world!
