Friday Favorite: Hey.Luisa

Squirrel + Flowers

Dreamlike, thought-provoking, magical, wow…  These are some of the words that came to mind when we stumbled upon Luisa Azevedo‘s work on Instagram and we’ve been mesmerized ever since.  This young and talented teen (yes, she’s the same age as our older boys – 19!) has captured our hearts with her imaginary world of flora and fauna.  A native of Portugal, Luisa sets her subjects in the landscapes she loves most – the ocean and the hills of her country – and her photography allows us to escape, even for just a minute.  Luisa is currently studying at the University of Lisbon where she’s majoring in Multimedia Art and applying the Photoshop skills she learned through Youtube.  But enough words, how about some more images?

Friday Favorite: Shay Cochrane

Foliage Heart

On one of our recent trips down the Instagram rabbit hole (you know how it goes…  You follow someone new and then all of a sudden three hours are gone!) we discovered the wonderful work of Shay Cochrane, product stylist and commercial photographer extraordinaire.

Floral Background

Succulents

They say “a picture is worth a thousand words” and that is so much more the case these days when our attention span is limited to 140 characters.  That’s why it’s so important for small businesses to tap the creative juices of those in the know to make sure their website or their blog truly reflects their brand.  Shay makes this easy with SC Stockshop, the source for fab photos when you don’t have the budget for a professional photographer.

Ranunculus

Poppies

Whether it’s a hero image for your home page or a border you need for your blog, Shay has so many designs to choose from.  We, of course, love her florals and had to share them with you.

Tropicals

Happy Friday and enjoy the first weekend of spring!

P.S.  Don’t forget to enter our giveaway of an autographed copy of In Bloom before Monday – see details on our blog post, Instagram or Facebook.

Friday Favorite: A Sensible Habit

Tulum Pinch Bowl with Spoon

Bet you thought this post was about eating healthier or getting more sleep…  but it’s not!  A Sensible Habit is the whimsical collection of home goods designed by our friend, Brandy Schuman.  By day, Brandy is the Marketing and Social Media Manager at Blabla Kids and by night, she gets her creative on in her Atlanta home studio.

Pretty Pink Spoon Rest

Rosé Club Enamel Pin

What started out as a blog documenting Brandy’s love of food and entertaining evolved into designing invitations for her friends and creating products that complemented her daily life.  Brandy then listed her collection on Etsy and things took off.

Porcelain Long Balance Earrings

Over the years, this multi-dimensional artist has explored different mediums and her current collections include ceramics, textiles, jewelry and stationery.  From pretty pinch bowls and spoon rests to sassy cards and funky earrings, Brandy’s collection has something for everyone (even all you rosé lovers out there!)

We love the clean, colorful aesthetic of Brandy’s work and plan to make A Sensible Habit part of our everyday life…  no kale in sight!

Friday Favorite: Canopy Designs

Branches Globe Pendant

It’s always fun to stroll the aisles in High Design during the Atlanta Gift & Home Furnishings Show and even more fun to see new vendors in the vicinity of our booth.  One such company was Canopy Designs; while new to High Design, we’ve know Merrie Shinder, the owner and lead designer since our days at the NY Gift Show on Pier 94.

Dandelion

Branches Chandelier

Merrie’s been in business longer than we, launching her beautifully handcrafted lighting, home accessories and jewelry in 1993.  Inspired by nature, Canopy’s lighting collection is exquisite and a number of pieces literally took our breath away.  Her newest designs are inspired by the delicate workmanship, intricate details and elegant color palettes of kimonos and capture their essence perfectly.

Canopy Designs are available at ABC Home in Manhattan, at fine home decor and lighting retailers and through interior designers.  Best of all, Merrie can create custom designs in case you’re looking for that special piece to light up your life!

Friday Favorite: Indigo

Bachelor Button X-Ray

Bachelor Button X-Ray

We do love the color blue, and in every hue…  So it’s no surprise that’s it’s the #1 favorite color in the world, symbolizing peace and serenity, as well as strength and trust.

Blue never goes out of style and deep indigo seems to be having a moment (again), whether in home decor or fashion.  You can’t go wrong with pairing this moody shade with neutrals or bright colors – go ahead and paint a wall Drawing Room Blue or invest in that indigo velvet couch (we did!)

Pure Joy Paperie

Our Friday Favorite comes just in time for all your spring party planning!  We’ve known Liz Joy for quite some time and have followed her transformation from newlywed blogger (she was Shorely Chic when we first met) to mother of two and designer of pretty paper goods.  She’s also a neighbor of ours and it seems that the only time we have to catch up with her these days is in the aisles of Trader Joe’s.

So we were thrilled to learn through her new blog, Pure Joy Home, that she just launched a new website for her joy-filled paper products, Pure Joy Paperie.  Her collection includes stationery and invitations, art prints, and address stamps; each charming design is filled with color and life.  Liz has also added fabulous lucite trays to her line with custom inserts you can mix and match.  Our favorite is her flamingo print – perfect for summer entertaining.

Bouquet

Bouquet

Love, like art, comes in every shape and size…  so this Valentine’s Day, we want to quench your desire to transform your blank wall into something that dazzles the senses (and yes, we think a great piece of art can be romantic!)  We spent four days at NY NOW in our booth drooling over this wall candy by The Oliver Gal Artist Co., just steps away from our booth.  This company, based in South Florida and spearheaded by sisters Lola and Ana (even their names are sexy), is a collective of artists whose passion is to “capture life’s most haute moments, avant-garde objects and splendid lifestyles.”  With their mix of fashion and pop culture with modern botanicals and a sense of glamorous whimsy, it was love at first sight.  And if you’re not looking for art, you can always check out their collection of home accessories which translates their pieces into bedding, pillows, clutches and more…

Cut and Paste

The pop up stores at the Grand Central Station Holiday Fair are so much fun and yet, every time we think of stopping by the booths bedecked with festive goodies, we’re always rushing for a train.  One of these days, we’ll make a point of catching an earlier train into New York to give us time to browse…  One shop that tops our list of favorites is R. Nichols, a stationery and gift company founded by illustrator R. Nichols Hanzlik 14 years ago in the windowless basement of his parents’ home (he does confirm that he was there by choice and not padlocked down there or anything!)  Drawing upon the collage skills he learned in 6th grade, R. Nichols has created a wonderful selection of note cards, gift tags, journals and the like, decorated with whimsical images that make you smile.  The holiday collection is charming and we love the mix of people and pets in the happy designs – the perfect gift to warm the heart of even the most die-hard Grinch…  From boxed note cards,

P.S.  We’re sorry about the sporadic posts lately – the holiday season is crazy busy for business owners like us who have to ship last minute orders to retail stores, designers and our own e-commerce customers!  We hope to be back on track next week and wish you all a festive weekend.

Friday Favorite: Aerin’s Fall Collection

Fall Table

Fall Table

Aerin Lauder’s new collection has just been unveiled at Bergdorf Goodman on the 7th Floor and we’re loving her choice of autumn palette – warm chocolate shagreen, rich golden leaves, marbleized clay and touches of lavender and opal – the perfect mix to transition into fall.  If you haven’t seen the floor in person, you really should but if you don’t live in the tri-state area, this wonderful tour by Quintessence will give you an idea of how beautifully the designs work with each other yet stand out on their own.  We fell hard for the following pieces and think they would work as perfect layering accents (well, maybe not the $4,000 chandelier!) to celebrate the coming season.
