One early Sunday morning in July we received an email from Mary Howard, set designer extraordinaire, with the subject “Flowers for fashion shoot – Urgent” and despite our “no work email” rule on weekends, we had to respond. The “huge fashion shoot” for a “high profile September issue” with a “very big celebrity” was happening the following Tuesday and Mary needed several arrangements of all sizes to put on tabletops in a New York City mansion.
Needless to say, we jumped at the chance to work with Mary since we had seen her work on the covers of Vogue, Vanity Fair and the like. As we made our way up to Litchfield County that Sunday to see hot air balloons, we came up with a list of designs and speculated on who the “celebrity” might be. Monday morning we packed up the designs and sent them into the city, anxiously hoping that one or two would make the shoot.
And then we waited… and waited, and waited until last week when it was revealed that the celebrity was none other than Kim Kardashian West and the shoot was the first fashion spread she has done with her four-year-old daughter, North. Interview, the magazine that featured our florals, is one we’ve read since we were teenagers and little did we know that it was founded by Andy Warhol. Shot by Steven Klein, the images are eye-catching and we love how our designs pop against the muted backgrounds.
Perhaps we’ll start bending the “no work emails on weekend” rule more often…
P.S. We couldn’t resist that last image as we remember the days when we tried to get the boys to sit still for photographs.
