Fabulous Finds: Gucci Decor

Gucci Decor

Here’s something new for Kanye West to sing about…  Gucci’s launching a home decor collection this fall partly inspired by last summer’s Westminster Abbey Cruise show.  Now this Gucci uber fan can decorate his home(s) in floor to ceiling Gucci – from cushions and candles to wallpaper and chairs.

Gucci Decor Cushions

Red Velvet Bee Cushion

Featuring prints, patterns and graphics from creative director Alessandro Michele’s previous collections, the new line is “intended to allow for a flexible and personal approach to decoration, bringing an accent of Gucci’s contemporary romanticism into the home.”

Gucci Decor Mugs

Toile and Chicken Mug

While we wouldn’t recommend replacing all of your decor with this colorful accessories, a chair here or a candle there would add pizzazz to any room.  How about a red velvet throw pillow with a bright bee (you know we’re partial to bees and these are embroidered and then hand applied, rumored to be a 10-hour process) or a toile covered mug topped with a rooster?  Gucci Decor hits stores in September so keep an eye out for these fabulous finds.

Happy Friday all and may your weekend be filled with color!

At Home with H&M!

Blossoms Abound – Spring 2011

We love H&M Home and after reading about the company’s collections season after season on Bright Bazaar and other blogs for years, we’re so excited to hear that the company is finally launching home accessories in the US after making their way through Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the U.K.  At last, we will experience first hand the fabulous finds we’ve been longing to have.

Pretty Petals for Spring 2012

In true runway to home style, H&M lovers will be able to decorate their homes the way they fill their closets – with the same “cheap chic” panache the company is known for in fashion.  Each season, this European import will produce three “trend” collections, introducing many coordinating accessories every two weeks.

Aesthetic Movement

Harbinger of Style

We’re off to Atlanta to buy for our next collection (Fall/Winter 2012, if you can believe it!) and one of our first stops for inspiration is the Aesthetic Movement showroom.

Inspiration from the New York Showroom

Coming across this mecca of taste and style was one of the highlights of last July’s trip and we’re making a point of adding some of their lines to our Diane James Home gift site this spring.  From Thomas Paul…

Aesthetic Movement believes that brushes with beauty can enhance the overall quality of life.  And who are we to argue with a mission like theirs – to “move hearts and minds by advocating the extraordinary – not proliferating the ordinary”?

Hey… Cut That Out!

Stepping Out in Miu Miu

Stepping Out in Miu Miu

Holy Moly, we’ve been seeing a lot of cutouts, eyelets and lace these days and not all are on models walking down the runway…  From the looks of it, European designers can’t get enough of the play between texture and shape that results from using scissors (or a laser!) to create these floral forms.  Is this a trend that we’ll be seeing soon stateside?  Vera Wang thinks so… how about you?

Fabulous Find: Jones & Jones Abode

Getting A Buzz

Getting A Buzz

While most our blogging friends were walking the aisles of the NY International Gift Fair this week discovering divine design, we were busy as proverbial bees in our booth on Pier 94.  Fortunately, Jones & Jones Abode was just across the way from us so we had plenty of eye candy of our own.

A Pomegranate Primer

When Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring and fruit, was kidnapped and held captive by Hades in the underworld, she swore she would not eat until her release… but then she came across a pomegranate!

The Perfect Pomegranate - Martha Style!

The Perfect Pomegranate - Martha Style!

According to the myth, she devoured almost the entire fruit, leaving only six seeds, which forced Persephone to spend six months of the year in the underworld once she had been released.  The months she is away, her mother, Demeter, the goddess of harvest, grieves and the earth becomes barren and that’s why we have seasons (according to the Greeks, that is!)

Divine Design: Laura Kirar for Arteriors Home

Ceramic "Fountain" Vases

Ceramic "Fountain" Vases

Having spent the weekend “oohing and ahhing” over the pages of the latest Traditional Home (and not only because we’re in it – see page 76!), we had to post about the fabulous work of Laura Kirar for Arteriors Home.  A graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Laura has designed collections for the likes of Baker, McGuire and Tufenkian.  This latest endeavor allows her to create living art and organic forms from bronze, glass and ceramic, so that we can all “bring home the joyous quality of nature.”

Oh So “Happy Chic”!

It’s Tabletop Week again and 7West kicked off the festivities with a great discussion on creativity hosted by iconic potter Jonathan Adler and prolific journalist Rima Suqi.  From  his childhood passion of throwing pots in the basement of his family’s modern home to his first order from Barneys in 1994, Jonathan has stayed true to his motto that “if your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it.”

Now, his collection of “happy chic” home accessories (sold in over 1,000 stores worldwide and in eleven Jonathan Adler stores) has expanded to include not only pottery, but pillows and throws, rugs, lighting, candles and diffusers and even a collection for Barbie’s 50th birthday.

During the conversation, Jonathan shared some of his tips on starting a business (“hang out with tragic, cautionary tales and learn from them!”), what fuels his creativity (Latin American weavers helped launched his pillow line) and humourous anecdotes on doing business abroad (like parrots dropping dead during a meeting in Peru.)

When creating his collections, Jonathan follows three design philosophies: organic modernism (paired down yet “crafty”), deluxe (a.k.a. David Hicks, Palm Beach, Hollywood Regency) and pop (hippy and groovy).  His paired down sensibility with a sense of exuberance is clearly seen in his wonderful products and his colorful voice in interior design is unique.  Thank you, Jonathan and Rima, for a most enjoyable time!
