Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to turn our attention to decorating our home for Thanksgiving. When we saw this tabletop on Terrain’s blog, we knew that gourds would play a starring role and we’d be joining the myriad of happy homemakers who have used this vegetable as ornamentation for over 10,000 years. Not only is each gourd unique (and some take on the oddest shapes), but they also last a very long time so once you create your vignette, you can pretty much just let it be.
We love how gourds can be used indoors and out – strung together as a great garland or heaped up in an urn or window box with some bright orange berries for contrast.
If you’re really gaga for gourds, you could spend some time with a drill and do like Martha, turning them into a candle holder or vase.
And since Christmas is a mere three and a half weeks after Thanksgiving, why not use a little gold paint to transform your fall centerpiece into a festive holiday one!
