Not Our Grandmother’s Lace!

Gold Lace Cuff

Gold Lace Cuff

Our grandmother Ida loved lace and whenever she had the opportunity to visit us in Belgium, one of the lace capitals of the world, she would add pieces to her vast collection of handkerchiefs, tablecloths, placemats and napkins (thankfully, no doilies!)  Lace has been around since the late 15th century and while Ida’s tastes tended more toward the traditional, we’re happy to see that this form of openwork fabric is trendy again and it’s being used in so many different, modern ways.  Whether dipped in gold, stenciled on ceramics or imbedded in plastic, traditional lace patterns are popping up in fashion, accessories, tabletop and home decor.  Grandmother Ida would not have invested in these pieces but we know we would!

Fab Feathered Finds

Peacock Paperweight – Karen Adams

While flamingos have been getting a lot of press lately (our friend, Liz, from Shorely Chic even dedicates her Friday post to them), there are other feathered friends worth tweeting, squawking or crowing about… like the peacock or parrot.  And what better way to celebrate their pretty plumage than with some fab finds – a fine way to feather our nest in colorful style.

Fringed Frock – Dorothy Perkins

Downy Dangles – Aurelie Bidermann
