Colombia. Bird stamps. 2015

Colombia artist Diana Beltran Herrera certainly knows how to put her personal stamp on the art world…  Give her some colored paper, scissors and glue and she’ll create the most unbelievable birds – so realistic they look like they could fly away!  Flora and fauna seem to be a recurring theme in Diana’s work as she tries to bring the relationship between nature and human beings closer together.  Her most current work is entitled “Bird Stamps from All Around the World” and these pieces must be a sight to see in person – just look at the intricate detail of each feather and petal!  And while we appreciate the efforts of kindergartners everywhere, these collage-like sculptures take “art time” to a whole new level…

Color Therapy: Pinks and Blues

Blooming Beauty

Blooming Beauty

One of our favorite things about spring are the cherry blossoms that explode with all their pink prettiness and there’s nothing like seeing their blooms against a brilliant blue sky.

Perhaps that’s why this dining room by Ruthie Sommers makes us so happy…  we can’t think of a better color combination to chase away the winter blahs.

Yangyang Pan – Flower on Wall

Art, like flowers, makes a room feel more personal, more lived in and now that our little renovation project is wrapping up (fingers crossed!), we’re on the hunt for a couple of paintings and/or prints for our new living room.  While we have no budget for “important” art (that’s what our mother calls the pieces her husband collects), we do want to invest in things we’ll love for a long, long time.  Pretty trumps “important” in our book and we think these artists might just fit the bill (as long as the bill fits the budget!)

Starla Michelle – Waiting Room 2

Kirra Jamison – Surrender Star

Yulia Brodskaya – PAPERgraphic

Cameron Schmitz – South Road II

Jessica Zoob – Midsummer Dreaming / Passion 2

Do you have a favorite artist or source for art?  We’d love to know!

P.S.  Have you see the “One Of A Kinds” at Anthropologie yet?  A great source for up and coming artists!
