Spring Cleansing

A is for Apple

It’s the first day of spring which means we’re looking forward to some spring cleaning… and that doesn’t just mean our closets!  Since winter coats and heavy sweaters tend to hide the hibernation weight we’ve gained, we also like to clean up our eating habits before summer is upon us.  Our adventures in spring cleansing have been varied, and like Goldilocks, it’s taken us some time to find one that’s just right.

The Ultimate New York Body Plan

We’ve tried the red carpet variety à la David Kirsch, a 48 hour drink only cleanse (“if you’re chewing, you’re cheating!”) which was way too drastic and we’ve tried Alejandro Junger’s 21 Day Clean Program which was way too long.

Leslie’s Clean Greens

This year, we’re heeding the wise words of fellow blogger and nutritionist Leslie from Around the Table, who suggests a whole food meal plan along with some juicing as the best way to get clean in her recent post Go Ahead and Juice It!

A Smoothie a Day

When we came across Whole Living’s Action Plan with its delicious breakfast smoothies (there’s an app for that!) and make-ahead and big batch recipes, we knew we’d found the perfect spring cleanse.

Cauliflower “Rice” Stir Fry

Out with all the processed and sweetened food (and dairy and alcohol and coffee!) and in with the healthy grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes.  Now, all we have to do is buy a juicer and cook up several batches of cleansing broth!

Brown Rice with Kale, Edamame and Egg

Do you clean up your diet as well as your closets?

P.S.  All recipes for the Whole Living Action Plan can be found here!

I love how spring cleaning can require us to think about more than just our closets.
Thanks for sharing such inspiration~ swimsuit season is after all just around the corner.

Oh yes!! I have been on a diet for over 2 weeks…now getting used to it but that first week was brutal. I hated having to give up my beloved cheese, pasta and chocolate. One thing I can never give up is coffee….cut back, yes but give up, no way.
I am considering buying a Vitamix, hear so many good things…and our whole family loves smoothies. I love that A….what a work of art!
Cheers to healthy eating and going down in size!!

While I admire all of you dedicated juicers, I don’t think I could give up the chew factor! But renewed healthy eating is definitely on the agenda!

I have never been on a cleanse, but I am on a diet where I’m gluten and dairy free….and no coffee….Good luck with the cleanse!

a two day cleanse sounds like a great jump start. and unlike some cleanses/detoxes, the food here looks good, not like something that looks like it should be in a barn stall.
