Necessary Luxury: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Jeni... Oh, How We Love You!

Jeni... Oh, How We Love You!

Ahhh, Memorial Day…  The unofficial start to summer.  For some, this weekend means dusting off the white jeans and flip flops (you know who you are!) and for others, it means outdoor entertaining and visits to the local ice cream parlor!

We love to combine the best of both worlds and serve our guests handmade gelati and sorbets, but we’re hopeless when it comes to actually making it ourselves.  That’s why we love Jeni Britton Bauer and her carefully crafted American ice creams.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams start with whole cream from a local dairy, Snowville Creamery.  Then, Jeni, a trained French pastry chef, adds fresh ingredients grown in the Ohio countryside, responsibly-raised exotics from around the world and delightful delicacies (pralines, meringues, marshmallows – you name it!) made from scratch in her production kitchen.  The result – heavenly ice creams and sorbets that are less sweet and more flavorful.

And the best part…  Jeni ships her creations nationwide!  For those of you who are more intrepid in the kitchen than we, Jeni has just come out with a cookbook with over 100 “Addictively Good Artisanal Recipes.”  With flavors as fabulous as Backyard Mint, Riesling Poached Pear and Wildberry Lavender, you can delight yourself and your guests all summer long…  We know we will!

Oh this is VERY dangerous for me to know about!! But those little pints won’t go very far in our house of ice cream lovers. Wonderful if they carry larger containers. My husband goes to our local creamery with a cooler!!

Does this post give us permission to indulge in ice cream this weekend? Please say yes! This ice cream looks REALLY REALLY good and I have a definite weakness for good ice cream. And what better time to try a new ice cream than the start of summer! It is however a bit dangerous to know she makes it oh a little too convenient and uh..ships her creations right to your door, I would rather not know about that part. Although I like to think that when I am eating a sorbet or gelato its not really ice cream but more of a diet item…lol (yea right) thanks for the introduction….defintely going to check this one out!

Delish central. My family would polish off these in minutes!!
Think sun for Sunday this weekend— it’s my son’s high school graduation picnic in our yard!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I just checked out their website and they sell at a market not that far from me…yay!! I might have to buy the book for my mom; she is slightly obsessed with her ice-cream maker and we’re going down for a visit in July : ) Hope you had a great holiday weekend!! x Kelly
