Two of our boys are taking a big step today and “moving up”… from Middle School to High School. Where did the time go? We can’t help but be reminded of a poem our Dad use to read to us from A.A. Milne’s When We Were Very Young (a book we still have on our shelf, though it’s quite battered!) It’s about the perfect place to sit and contemplate life…
halfway down the stairs
is a stair
where i sit.
there isn’t any
other stair
quite like
it.
i’m not at the bottom,
i’m not at the top;
so this is the stair
where
i always
stop.
halfway up the stairs
isn’t up
and it isn’t down.
it isn’t in the nursery,
it isn’t in town.
and all sorts of funny thoughts
run round in my head.
it isn’t really
anywhere!
it’s somewhere else
instead!
To all of you who have children making moves this summer, whether they be big or small… This one’s for you!

Gorgeous. Reminds me of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing the light fantastic up and down the stairs. I think steps towards one’s goal are all part of life’s lessons. What a collection of fabulous steps!
– stairway’s to heaven!

All so beautiful! That last picture is breathtaking……..have a great weekend.
What lovely stairs you found! Congratulations to the graduates and their moms too! Our last moving up was a double, one from grade school and one from middle school. To say I was emotional is an understatement. 😉
Love this poem!
I have been through this, and know how emotional each step is. I remember each step as if it was yesterday. My daughter will be starting her last year in college this fall.
These images are amazing. Such a beautiful post, you two!
Happy Friday.

Oh wow, these are stunning steps!
This post brought a tear to my eye – we used to read this poem in our house when I was a child (and also poems from Now We are Six).
Beautiful, beautiful images to illustrate the thoughts…what did we do before Pinterest?
Saw some of your gorgeous products in Mrs. Howard last week – orchids – so pretty!
