Hermes’ New Home

If you happened to have been in Paris last week for Maison & Objet, we hope you had a chance to stop by Hermes‘ new home on Rue de Sevres.  Created from a space that was once the Lutetia hotel’s indoor swimming pool, the store’s most striking feature (besides the original tile mosaics that line the walls and floors) are the three 20′ tall “huts” made of latticed ashwood.

“I had a moment of vertigo when I first visited,” Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermes’ artistic director, explained.  “I asked myself, how can we turn this into a warm and protective space?”

While we would spend hours browsing the gorgeous fashionable accessories Hermes has to offer, we certainly wouldn’t want to miss the company’s new focus on interior decor – fabrics, wallpaper, carpets and Jean-Michel Frank numbered furniture re-editions.

And of course, no fabulous Parisian boutique would be without a signature cafe (Le Plongeoir is a tea bar) and flower shop (Baptiste).

So for those of you who are fortunate enough to be heading to Paris this spring (like our friend, Lisa, from Hamptontoes!), you’ll have to add this sumptuous store on your “must visit” list.

Reminds me of a light fixture from design within reach….wish that shop was within my reach today….to take me away from all this snow and ice. It looks modern yet warm! Maybe I will hop in Lisa’s valise….to Paris!

Just breathing the air in this rarefied store was fun. I came away with a new bracelet, which will be a lifelong reminder of my visit there on my birthday. Lisa is in for a treat!!!
