When the set designer for Netflix’s Mindhunter came calling for a number of plants and trees with a certain vintage vibe, we knew exactly where to find design inspiration that fit the style… As it happens, we’d just read a blog post about designer Jeff Lincoln channeling the 1980’s for a client’s multi-million dollar yacht. Armed with images of the interiors, we went looking for all things 80’s that would fit the aesthetic (think Golden Girls meets Terence Conran).
Since Mindhunter is a series based on the early days of the FBI’s criminal profiling unit, we found vintage brass and rattan planters for our aloe plants and traveler palms. These will pair well with all types of designer furniture, but especially the desks and chairs with chrome accents that we know will be used on set.
The harder challenge was sourcing faux house plants that were popular in this era as many of these haven’t made a come back. The good news is they still make a very good fiddle leaf fig tree and split leaf philo bush! Wouldn’t it be amazing if they put all of our designs in one room?
Stay tuned… Season 2 of Mindhunter is dropping sometime this fall and if it’s as binge-worthy as Season 1, we’re in for a treat.

Vintage furniture is so in! Viyet has some amazing and unique pieces as well!
I truly admire vintage finds that can be transformed into modern heirlooms. The selection from Vinyet is perfect, can’t wait to buy a one-of-a-kind piece to make my own. Loving the design inspiration on this post, feeling a Japanese Garden vibe!
After seeing some of those vintage pieces from Viyet I just might have to set up my own Mindunter room in my house (what an amazing show)! All jokes aside, vintage pieces really do anchor a house’s decor so nicely and you’ve given me some great inspiration! Thanks!
Awesome inspiration! I love the vintage vibe and I have always found cool pieces from Viyet.
Mindhunter is such a good show, I loved the style in it! I didn’t realize that Viyet had so many similar pieces, thanks for sharing!
