On Friday, we had the true pleasure of seeing Valentino: The Last Emperor, the award-winning documentary which follows the divine designer and his partner in business and in life, Giancarlo Giammetti, in the last years before Valentino’s retirement. For 96 minutes, we were transported by Valentino’s creative genius – from his pampered yet adorable pugs to his beautiful relationship with Giancarlo and the many seamstresses who transformed his vision into couture magic, the movie is an intimate behind-the-scenes view of the designer’s last two collections culminating in the over-the-top gala celebrating his 45th anniversary at the Temple of Venus in Rome.
While Valentino may have retired, his creative legacy lives on in the beautiful gowns that made his last collection unforgettable. While he is known for his signature red, we can’t resist his florals. Ciao, Valentino, you will be missed by all!
