Bergdorf Goodman’s Ode to New York

New York Botanical Gardens

New York during the holidays sparkles and we try to get into the city at least once or twice to get our jingle bells on…  Top on our list is window shopping at the big three – Bergdorf’s, Bendel’s and Barney’s!  We heard rumor of what was behind the curtain at Bergdorf’s when we met with our buyers last month so we’re very excited to see the windows in person.

New York Historical Society

The New York Philharmonic

Partnering with some of New York’s iconic institutions, Bergdorf created holiday displays that are beyond bling (like over 1.5 million individual Swarovski crystals covering dinosaur skeletons and giant paper mache flowers).  From the New York Botanical Garden to the American Museum of Natural History (both of which we adore and have spent so many hours exploring) these partners provided so much inspiration to David Hoey, the store’s director of visual presentation.  “While exploring this theme, we knew the windows had to be dynamic and multilayered to evoke the excitement of New York today, while simultaneously celebrating the city’s past,” says Hoey.

BAM

This iconic store’s creativity extends beyond the windows onto the shelves where a slew of limited edition products and experiences have been created with the institutions and current vendors.  We’re sure there’s something for everyone, even the most picky mother-in-law!

Meet Heather Scott Home & Design

Austin Parade Home

We’re celebrating a big birthday this year and will be spending it somewhere special.  Not that we know exactly where that place will be yet as we’re still in the idea gathering phase.  Charleston is definitely on our list, and so is Austin.  We hear both are hopping when it comes to hip hotels, fabulous food and window shopping.  If we end up in Austin, we’ll make sure to stop by Heather Scott Home & Design, a beautiful store north of the city filled with an ever changing selection of furniture and home decor.

Heather’s signature style is described as classic, serene and chic and there’s not one room in her portfolio we wouldn’t want to live in.  Even her store is filled with artfully created vignettes, leading her to win the ARTS award for Best Home Accents Store in the mid-west/south-west.  Best of all, she decided our designs would complement her elegant aesthetic so you can now find our faux florals in Austin!

Fall-ing for Jayson Home

Indigo Ceramic Flowers

Indigo Ceramic Flowers

Actually, we fell for Jayson Home – “where beautiful things aren’t just a passion, they’re an obsession” – many years ago and the lovefest continues to this day.  We eagerly await the arrival of the catalog each season and dream about layering our homes with the store’s edgy yet elegant wares.  The Fall 2014 collection is beautiful…  indigo blue, apple green and pumpkin orange add pops of color to the warm hues of natural wood and horn.  Fall for us means getting cozy and entertaining friends and family by a fire so why not do some shopping before the season starts?  Here are some things we’re adding to our fall list…

Shop the Project with Terrain

Pot Press Party Favors

Pot Press Party Favors

Terrain is one of our very favorite stores in Westport and we’ve enjoyed many a day of shopping and dining there (they have a wonderful cafe so plan your trip around lunchtime!) but we’ve never signed up to take one of their many classes or attend a “DIY” event.  And while we wouldn’t describe ourselves as DIYers (more like DIFMs – “do it for me”), we do like to be creative and enjoy the results of a hands-on project.

Now Terrain has made it even easier to be “crafty” with their Shop the Project section online.  All you need to do is read up on the project in The Bulletin, then click over to the store and shop.  Many of the projects involve real plants (and we’ve sadly killed our fair share) and others are quite environmentally humane.

So join us as we whip up a batch of rosewater and try our hand at pot press party favors (which would make lovely decorations for your Easter table and takeaways for your guests!)

Wishing you a creative and crafty weekend!

P.S.  The Terrain store in Westport is having a spring planting sale this weekend just in time for your gardens to bloom and you may just find us there.

Revival

Refreshed and Revived

Refreshed and Revived

What a whirlwind start of the year we’ve had…  From a couple of days on a Mexican beach to a week of buying stems and selling our flowers at the AmericasMart in Atlanta, we are due for a little rest!  So why not start off the weekend with the serene elegance of Revival, a one-of-a-kind store in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Cire Trudon Candles

Cire Trudon Candles

Called “the savviest, prettiest, loveliest design store in America” by Bobby McAlpine in Architectural Digest last year, Revival has something for everyone thanks to the discerning editorial eyes of co-owners Rodney Simmons and Billy Woodall.  The store is filled with creative vignettes using furniture and home accessories (both vintage and new) from around the world and we can just imagine spending the day browsing (or just lounging on a lushly upholstered chaise!)

We met Rodney when he stopped by our booth to admire our flowers and knew at once that we’d love to be part of his “uncommon” selection of luxury goods. Alas, faux flowers may not be for him and that’s OK…  he did mention that they might work for a large project he’s working on in Denver so our fingers are crossed!  Are you looking forward to a relaxing weekend, too?
