We think it will! Last year, Cuba was hot, hot, hot so it’s no surprise that the palm prints we loved so much in 2016 have been taken up a notch. Tropical flair was seen on the Resort 2017 runways embraced by the likes of Tory Burch and Valentino…
While Nina Campbell’s Palmetto print features towering palm frond vines – a playful twist on the classic strip that even Tarzan would enjoy.
Tropical botanical prints will show up on our walls as well so it’s no wonder Frontgate collaborated with the New York Botanical Garden to create the Exotic Flora Art Collection.
Last but not least, we predict that jungle animals will make a comeback (as if leopard print ever went out of style), in the shape of parrot feathers and monkeys!
Who knows, you might spy a bird of paradise in our collection this year…

The Grand Foyer
What do you get when you mix 92
volunteers elves from 33 states with 7,500 strands of colored ribbon, 150 pounds of gingerbread, 200,000 Lego pieces, 70,000 ornaments and a 19 foot spruce? A White House Christmas, of course! This year’s theme, “The Gift of the Holidays” highlights Michelle’s core initiatives as first lady – education, health and military service.
The Blue Room
The Blue Room tree is trimmed to honor the U.S. military and their families with mirrored ornaments and a garland with the preamble to the Constitution …
The Green Room
while the Green Room is decked out with garlands of lemons and limes symbolizing Michelle’s love of healthy eating and the “Let’s Move” program.
Gingerbread (White) House
Gingerbread houses are a favorite this time of year and the 300-pound one that graces the State Dining Room is an exact replica of the White House including models of Bo and Sunny, the first dogs. Also in the dining room are two trees decorated with Lego houses, each representing a state.
Bows and Balls
Last but not least, the halls and colonnades are dressed up for the holidays with glass balls, ribbons and bows to enchant even the Grinchiest of visitors.
The East Colonnade
Now if only we could get those elves to start decorating for us!

Branches and Baubles
Now that Thanksgiving is but a memory of delicious food and fun family gatherings, it’s time to get out the lights, garlands and holiday decorations. Most people deck the halls… and doors, mantles and tables but what about the chandeliers? This fixture, often a focal point in a dining room or entry, is easy to decorate, even if all you have the energy for is hanging a couple of vintage ornaments.
Greens and Reds
We love the look of fresh winter greens mixed with ribbon and flowers but these tend to wilt and dry out before the celebrations are done.
Red Berries and Balls
Gold and Silver
So this year we’re thinking of something with a bit more sparkle, like glass balls hung on velvet ribbons or perhaps crystal snowflakes and icicles. Wouldn’t it be magical to dine at this table?
Let It Snow
We’d love to hear how you’re decorating your home this year!
HD Walls – Burl by Emily Van Genderen
According to several shelter magazines, burl is back and in a more modern way. Wikipedia describes a burl as an outgrowth on a tree that disfigures it and it’s true, trees with burls aren’t that pretty. But what’s interesting is that burl wood is prized for its beauty and rarity, and sought after by artists and furniture makers.
Worlds Away – Hudson Chest of Drawers
Williams Sonoma – Exotic Gallery Frames
A hallmark the Biedermeier period, burl wood veneers made a comeback in the Art Deco movement and their retro look is still in fashion today. The only difference is that the wood is brighter and lighter, and not as glossy.
Palecek – Olive Ash Burl Tray
Chairish – Lacquered Burl Wood Lamps
From wallpaper and furniture to a broad range of home accessories, we’re giving burl a whirl…

2016 Hamptons Designer Showhouse
During our long weekend in the Hamptons several weeks ago, we took a break from the beach and ventured into Sag Harbor to see the 2016 Hamptons Design Showhouse sponsored by Traditional Home and benefiting Southampton Hospital. This 10,000 square foot newly built three story home is on the market for a mere $5.195 million but it does come with a pool, spa, tennis court, gym, wine cellar and lots of privacy since it sits on 3+ acres of overlooking a 135 acre wooded reserve.
Great Room by Kate Singer Home
Directly through the foyer is the great room designed by Kate Singer Home in a soothing seaside palette of blues, whites and grays. The hand painted de Gournay mural and the Michele Chandelier by Circa Lighting sets the tone for understated elegance.
Dining Room by Mendelson Group, Inc.
Gideon Mendelson’s dining room is wallpapered with gray Phillip Jefferies grasscloth overlayed with white latticework and made all the more stunning with a fabulous ginko leaf chandelier similar to this Tommaso Barbi design we found on 1stdibs.
Living Room by Melanie Turner Interiors
Statement chandeliers were definitely a trend in this year’s showhouse and Melanie Turner‘s geometric choice was perfect for this room which exuded sophisticated warmth.
Master Bath by Tilton Fenwick
We loved what the lovely ladies at Tilton Fenwick did with the master bath – the combination of their new Ikat Blossom wallpaper for Hygge & West with the salmon curtains was fresh and fun.
Bunk Room by Dodson Interiors
And finally, our favorite room… The girly and glamorous bunk room (which every vacation home should have!) designed by Julie Dodson had a wonderful mix of patterns. All in all, we thought this Hamptons Designer Showhouse was a big success and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Wunderkind designer, Sam Allen, knows how to live it up in style so, of course, we had to share his Summer Guide with you! For those of you who don’t know Sam, he has been honing his interior design skills since the age of 12 and once he was featured in The New York Times at
the ripe old age of 19, his career took off. These days, when he’s not helping his chic clients with their homes in CT or the Hamptons, he can be seen on NBC Open House and CBS This Morning sharing his views on design trends.
Blue and White
Summer is underway so it’s not too late to incorporate some of Sam’s tips into your indoor and outdoor style. We especially like his advice to be bold and select colors that make our heart sing!
Do you have any favorite ways to soak up summer?

Victor Minca – Trinidad Cuba
With diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba warming up and travel restrictions easing, we predict that this exotic island will soon become the destination of choice once the twelve official reasons for travel are lifted. We know we’d like to add some Havana nights to our bucket list and can’t wait to see the rainbow-hued houses and Art Nouveau influences. We also know that we’d indulge in some tropical fashions and a variety of fruit flavored mojitos to celebrate our trip.

A Twist on Tradition
We’re thanking our lucky stars that the International Gift and Home Furnishings Market is actually a week later this year since we’re heading down today… There’s no way we would have gotten our act together to sell our Spring/Summer 2016 collections without the extra time! We’ve been told by our key accounts who saw the new designs at Tabletop last fall that they are some of the prettiest they’ve seen so we’re hoping they’ll be well received down south.
Pink Peonies in Marbleized Ceramic Vase
The Twist Bouquet
Drawing inspiration from one of our favorite new books, Modern Mix by our friend Eddie Ross, A Twist on Tradition is a collection of bouquets that are both traditional and contemporary at the same time. Instead of arranging pink peonies in a classic blue and white Chinese porcelain container, why not use a marbleized ceramic vase? Or tie up white and green tulips in bunches with natural raffia to create a more modern bouquet? Even adding cut orchid blossoms to a composition can make it look fresh and current.
Casual yet chic, our new Lakeside Luxe collection strikes the perfect balance between the feeling of a summer’s day on the water and the elegance of a lakeside home. The blue, green and white hued palette, combined with unique containers made of wood, sea grass and etched glass, helps capture the quiet essence of lakeside living. Though designed with a lakeshore cottage in mind, these beautiful summer blooms are truly versatile and will complement many styles of décor.

Even though we’re swearing off all temptations and forgoing desserts and wine this month, we’d still like to raise our glass to a very sweet 2016!
So here’s to a year filled with beauty, blessings…

and of course, blooms.
Wishing you all the very best this year!
