Spring is finally here! Not that you would know it with temperatures in the 30’s today and still mounds of snow on the ground. We’re eager to see our bulbs blooming and the bright green of newborn leaves on the trees…
It may take a bit longer for Mother Nature to cooperate so we’ll have to rely on a bevy of new flower books to keep our spirits up. In Bloom: Creating and Living with Flowers is one of our favorites and we were lucky enough to meet author and photographer Ngoc Minh Ngo last year at a book signing.
This book, much like her first Bringing Flowers Home, is more than just about flowers – it’s as much a decorating tome in which artists, designers and tastemakers celebrate the essence of blooms in unique and inspiring ways.
From the painted blossoms of Claire Bassler, to the graceful gardens of Miranda Brooks and the luxurious textiles of Neisha Crosland, Ngoc’s camera captures the beauty of these flower-filled homes while the text inspires the reader to connect with each of the owners on a personal level.
Lucky for you, we made sure we grabbed an extra autographed copy of In Bloom to give away today along with a paper wild rose stem created by Livia Cetti (who is also featured in the book). To enter, just leave us a comment below, like the post on Instagram or Facebook or email us at TheBuzz.Giveaway@gmail.com with “In Bloom” in the subject line. You have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017 to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday. Happy Spring!
Our week in Atlanta was essentially all work and no play but we did get to slip out of the booth one day to see a wonderful presentation by the delightful husband and wife duo, Cortney and Robert Novogratz, hosted by Rue Magazine. Longtime readers of this little blog might remember a gushing Thursday Thank You we wrote back in 2011 about their Downtown Chic style and their seven beautiful children.
The Novogratz Family
This Way to Fun!
These days, the Novogratz’s split their time between a “castle” in the Hollywood Hills, a country house in the Berkshires and an amazing home in Trancoso, Brazil. Their business has grown to include not only one of a kind homes, but boutique hotels and iconic retail stores. They’ve even designed products for the likes of CB2 and Shutterfly and in fact, were introducing a fun and colorful collection of rugs for Momeni while at the show.

After their presentation, Cortney and Bob graciously took the time to meet their fans and sign their new book, Beachside Bohemian, and of course, we had to get two. One for the office, which is already slightly dogeared as we’ve spent quite a bit of time soaking up the practical tips for easy living by the sea. And a second to give away!

While many were celebrating yesterday’s date with magaritas and Mexican fare, we were celebrating the launch of Dear Carolina, the first novel by North Carolina native and beautiful blogger, Kristy Woodson Harvey. Having had a regatta-free weekend (woohoo!), we spent two days reveling in the Southern charm of this story – two strong but very real women who come together for the sake of a baby girl. Kristy’s writing career began at UNC where she studied journalism and mass communications and was perfected through her blog, Design Chic, a family affair with her mother, Beth.
Kristy Woodson Harvey
Dear Carolina‘s richly developed characters (à la Steel Magnolias) live in a world where family comes first and colorful Southern idioms are as abundant as crepe myrtle. You can’t help but be transported by the two female narrators and the tale they weave for baby Carolina. So grab a copy, hop on a porch swing with a glass of sweet tea sangria, and prepare to be enchanted…
Should you wish to join the celebration and add a little Southern style and comfort to your home and kitchen, Kristy is offering a $1,000 Shop Design Chic Shopping Spree to one lucky winner. The Design Chic shop is chock full of divine home accessories and furniture, curated with a designer’s expert eye.
To enter the shopping spree, send proof of purchase of Dear Carolina (photos are fine!) to email@example.com. And just for entering, you’ll also receive a free e-copy of the Dear Carolina Companion Cookbook, full of Southern recipes from renowned bloggers and family members, and Dear Carolina printable quotes. Everyone’s a winner in this giveaway!

Gardens at First Light
One of our favorite parts of the day is early morning when the sun is rising over the ridge, the peepers are still peeping in the pond across the street and all is calm. On warmer days, you will find us outside on our terrace or porch with our cups of coffee enjoying the glow that is cast on our gardens at first light. That is one of the reasons why we were so thrilled to be contacted by the lovely and celebrated photographer, Stacy Bass, to profile her new book, Gardens at First Light, on our blog and to offer it as a giveaway to one lucky reader! We are such huge fans of Stacy’s (read about her in a post here) and her work is truly inspiring.
The second reason we were so excited is that the enchanting photographs are accompanied by text from well-known home and garden journalist Judy Ostrow, who not only is one of our neighbors but shares a birthday with us (we could be triplets!) Stacy’s second book is filled with over 200 images that offer a rare and privileged glimpse into dozens of private gardens in the Northeast. The only way you would be able to see these gardens at dawn is as guest of the homeowner!
Astilbe and Hydrangea
Best of all, Gardens at First Light also contains an illustrated reference guide for the featured gardens should you wish to put your green thumbs to work. Given our talent for killing live plants, we’ll settle with admiring the beauty of blooming rolling hills and the serene symmetry of box hedges instead.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, Stacy will be signing books in Westport, CT next week on Thursday, May 7th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at White Birch Studio and will personalize a book for you or for your mom! All you need to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with “Gardens at First Light” in the subject line. You have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday, May 4th.

Those of you who follow us on Instagram know that we took advantage of a beautiful almost spring day to stop by one of our favorite stores, Terrain, for a cooking class and a bite of lunch. On the menu were sumptuous salads, just in time for our coming-out-of-hibernation diets (yes, contrary to what you learned in school, female mammals who hibernate in the winter months
and drink lots of wine tend gain weight, not lose it!) Using award winning chef Caroline Hofberg’s book, Substantial Salads, as a guide, our charming chef walked us through the techniques of poaching salmon, smoking hazelnuts, roasting chicken and making a creamy dressing.

While most of us think of salads as a lunchtime staple or summertime dish, the recipes found in this book are filled with rich and hearty ingredients and would be perfectly satisfying meals any time of year. We dined on three that were as lovely to look at as they were tasty to eat: Beet Quinoa with Chicken, Creamy Potato with Poached Salmon and Cauliflower with Blue Cheese and Turkey. We were so happy with our class that we bought several copies of the book – two for ourselves and one to give away today!

Are you salivating yet? If so, you need the recipes and you can enter to win a copy of Substantial Salads by leaving a comment below letting us know your favorite salad combination or email us at email@example.com with “Substantial Salads” in the subject line. You have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 22, 2015 (first day of spring!) to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday.

Day 5 – Our Bouquet (Original)
Jeanne, from the beautiful and creative blog, I Dream Of, started off the year giving herself a challenge – to paint on a daily basis – and using pictures she finds on Instagram, she’s doing just that (you can see her daily sketches here!) Her goals are to be spontaneous and fast (her paintings take less than 30 minutes) and to not be afraid of making mistakes. Five days into her challenge, a pretty posy popped up on her Instagram and it was the Blush Hydrangea and Ranunculus bouquet from our new Spring/Summer 2015 collection! She said that the soft pinks and greens reminded her of bright spring days ahead…
Day 18 – @zhush
Day 6 – @prettypetals
With snow on the ground and frigid temps in the air, we thought we’d bring a bit of spring your way in the form of a giveaway! While Jeanne is holding on to her original pieces, she did paint a copy of her day 5 sketch for us to give to one of our wonderful readers. All you have to do is visit Jeanne’s Instagram page and let us know which is your favorite sketch with either a comment below or an email to firstname.lastname@example.org! She’s painted 30 so far and they’re all so lovely. We’re partial to her florals but we also love her sketches of Paris… Did we mention that Jeanne is also a world traveler?

Day 5 – Giveaway
You have until 11:59 pm eastern time on Sunday, February 8th, 2015 to enter and the lucky winner will receive Jeanne’s sketch in time for Valentine’s Day! Happy Friday and may your weekend be dreamy.
A Holiday Treat!
When talented interior designer Tom Scheerer is not flying off to the sunny beaches of Maine, Nantucket, Florida or The Bahamas, he’s relaxing in the Hamptons at our mother’s club. She’s a huge fan of his, as are we – that’s why it was really exciting for us to meet him in person last week at the Antiquarius Holiday Boutique where he was signing copies of his new book, Tom Scheerer Decorates. Soft-spoken and elegant, he’s was exactly how we had imagined him!
A Kitchen in Palm Beach
A Living Room in Hobe Sound
With a style that he describes as “cheerful”, “no nonsense” and a touch “underbaked”, Tom’s interiors are as fresh and relaxing as the locations where his clients reside. His book is filled with beautiful rooms, each with its own comfortable character that is so laid back, it’s hard to call the space “decorated.” As David Netto (another member of mother’s club) wrote in The New York Times about Tom’s philosophy, “It’s about celebrating real life, and remembering that the chicest thing of all, when you can have whatever you want, is to be yourself.”

With snow falling for the third time in eight days here and Christmas just around the corner, we thought this signed book of lovely interiors (many of which are in warmer climes like the Lyford Cay Club!) would be the perfect giveaway – and a great last minute gift for yourself or someone else! All you need to do is leave a comment below or email us at email@example.com with “Tom Scheerer Decorates” in the subject line. You have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013 to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday, the 23rd. We’ll even send the book by UPS Overnight so you can have in time for Christmas!

Book Your Trip!
With our childhood spent browsing Belgian brocantes (a.k.a junk stores) and traveling around markets in Asia and Europe, we’ve collected many treasures that are now displayed in our homes. Each has its own story and together, these collected pieces create a sense of worldliness and adventure that perhaps our daily lives do not necessarily reflect.
That’s why we couldn’t wait to review Sandra Espinet’s beautiful new book, The Well-Traveled Home. This California and Mexico based designer has lived the life of a “transcontinental nomad” and the experience has allowed her to capture the “evolving interplay of the domestic and the international”, all the while creating alluring and comfortable spaces for her clients.
Leafing through the pages of Sandra’s book was like taking a mini-vacation – we were transported into the luxurious homes of those who live the well-traveled life where a French rococo mirror reflects a bed made with colorful Fortuny fabrics and where a Guatemalan cabinet is accessorized with Coptic crosses and Moroccan urns. Best of all, Sandra tells the stories behind her best finds and shares some of her favorite shopping haunts and design tips with her readers.
We’re so excited to be able to share Sandra’s book with you and she’s generously offered to send a signed copy to one of our readers (for you to keep or to give at the holidays!) All you need to do is leave a comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with “The Well-Traveled Home” in the subject line. You’ll have until 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 17, 2013 to enter and we’ll announce the winner on Monday.
And for more of Sandra’s sensational settings, please visit her website and blog!
