Pretty Purples in Lantern Vase

Who says country and couture can’t come together to create a floral collection that is on the one hand elegant and pretty yet on the other, relaxed and comfortable?  This sense of approachable luxury is what we tried to capture in our new Spring/Summer 2013 collection, where rustic vases like antiqued lanterns or hobnail glass jars are paired with luscious hydrangea and peonies.

Blossoming Bedding

Dahlias, Ranunculus and Roses

The present trend toward a more casual lifestyle allows us to design looser compositions to mirror what you would do with your own garden cuttings, effortless bouquets that can finish any room of the house.  Sprigs of deep purple clematis, vibrant pink geranium and pale green apple blossoms add a whimsical country touch.

Garden Glam

Pops of PInk

And our lovely orchids, whether they are oncidium or phalaenopsis, are always “planted” in naturally mossed hand-thrown terra cotta pots for that fresh from the nursery touch.

Pink Patterned Phalaenopsis

We’re heading into the city on this frigid day to finish our booth at Pier 94 and counting the days until spring!  Will you be walking the New York Gift Show this year?

P.S.  Since we’re stuck selling at the show, we’ll be back next Friday so please stay tuned!

Fall Preview: Modern Vintage

Wisteria – Updated Heirlooms

As we head into New York today to put the final touches on our booth at the International Gift Fair, we thought you might enjoy a sneak peak at our new Fall/Winter collection – Modern Vintage.  We all know that mixing the old with the new is not a recent trend in fashion or home decor but with the current popularity of the Fiat Abarth 500 and the “flea market meets loft chic” vibe of Restoration Hardware and Wisteria, we couldn’t help but design a collection that combines vintage and modern elements.  Juxtaposing different eras and styles provides both contrast and harmony in a room or in a home accessory and the more surprising the mix, the better.

Amaryllis and Orchid Bouquet in Crystal Bowl

That’s why we paired a contemporary bouquet of vibrant green hydrangea mixed with ranunculus and passion flowers with a textured cream vase, reminiscent of Laguna vintage pottery…

Mixed Green Bouquet in White Ceramic Vase

and a classic white phalaenopsis orchid in an orange porcelain planter with clean lines (hello, Tangerine Tango!)

Phalaenopsis in Tangerine Scholar Vase

Homes need a history and a truly modern space would look cold without some vintage charm and the opposite is equally true, since contemporary elements help vintage decor stay relevant.

Dahlia, Rose and Orchid Bouquet in Cane Vase

Luckily our designs complement both modern and traditional spaces, adding life and pops of color where needed.

P.S.  If you’re walking the show, please stop by our booth on Pier 94 – #42059 and say hi!

Still Seeing Stars

Friday, July 6th, 2012

Classic and Chic

It all started with The Nanny Diaries…  Set designer Andrew Baseman came calling having “discovered” our designs at Bergdorf Goodman and we’ve been seeing stars ever since.

A Hit in the Making!

Next, we “auditioned” for the sets of Smash, which aired on NBC this spring, and on which Andy collaborated with production designer, Cabot McMullen.

A Producer's Office

Our Pink Chinese Cymbidium Orchid (featured in the hall above) makes a cameo in this show in the office of Broadway producer Eileen’s (played by Angelica Houston.)  The room is based on a real office in the Brill Building (home to numerous songwriters over the years) and had to have a nouveau rich aura about it so our Chateau in Bordeaux Bouquet was added in a supporting role on the table (you can see just above the gentleman’s shoulder.)

Lovely Leading Ladies

Songwriter Julia’s home is more comfortable in feeling with a mix of modern and vintage furniture and accessories.  Given that Debra Messing (who plays Julia) is highly allergic to fresh flowers, our faux fleurs appear in many scenes.  In this one, our Hydrangea Blossom (sadly no longer available) can be seen on the left side on the console just above the couch.

Singing Our Song

And our red carpet days aren’t over with a new show being filmed as we write…   666 Park Avenue will debut this fall on ABC, hopefully with some Diane James flowers in starring roles!

Wine Country and English Christmas

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

A Tuscan Landscape

Last fall, Diane spent a glorious week visiting her sister in the hills above Florence, strolling through the vineyards and olive groves and dining on the home-made pastas that the villa on Via di Terenzano is known for.

A Harvest of Grapes

She was so inspired by the colors found in the wine country - the rich plums and warm golden hues – that this palette became the foundation for this fall’s collection.

Wine Country

We had such fun pairing fall flowers with containers having a rustic feel – cubes that look like recycled glass bottles and “earthy” terracotta pots.

Nina Campbell at Home

Since the holiday season is so short, we prefer creating winter bouquets that don’t scream “Christmas” so they can be used throughout the season.  As we were designing the winter collection, preparations were underway for Kate and William’s wedding and we had just shipped our first order to Nina Campbell‘s (British royalty in our eyes) London store.

Nina Campbell's Table

How could we not evoke the elegance of an English Christmas in our winter collection, using lush flowers in beautiful glass and antiqued mirror vases to make bouquets fit for a Queen (or a newly-wed Prince and Princess!)

English Christmas

We’re excited to introduce our new Fall and Winter 2011 designs, now available on Diane James Home!
