When Elizabeth from Pretty Pink Tulips asked us how we liked our eggs the other day, we immediately thought “with plants and flowers, of course!” That’s because we had just picked up the pretty little plantings above at Terrain for our Easter table. Two of the plants are actually growing out of dyed eggs while the other two are planted in ceramic ones.
While we’ve seen Easter bouquets using eggs before, we like the fact that our little eggs hold live plants (for now!) We’re even thinking these might make great place card holders and our guests can take them home after lunch…
Here’s to appreciating the beauty of budding blooms this weekend and Happy Easter!

“In the spring at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” We laughed when we read this Margaret Atwood quote on Eat – Drink – Garden last week as it seems Spring has yet to make an appearance in the Northeast. While the daffodils and tulips are valiantly trying to sprout from the ground (which is still covered in snow in some parts) it will be a while before we get our hands dirty (and kill some garden greens with our black thumbs!) But there’s still hope and inspired by this Monday Mood, we thought we’d share some potting shed pretties.
P.S. You don’t have to wait for your garden to bloom to bring the outdoors in… We’ve just added our new spring collection online at Diane James Home – over 35 new designs to choose from!

It’s the first day of spring which means we’re looking forward to some spring cleaning… and that doesn’t just mean our closets! Since winter coats and heavy sweaters tend to hide the hibernation weight we’ve gained, we also like to clean up our eating habits before summer is upon us. Our adventures in spring cleansing have been varied, and like Goldilocks, it’s taken us some time to find one that’s just right.
We’ve tried the red carpet variety à la David Kirsch, a 48 hour drink only cleanse (“if you’re chewing, you’re cheating!”) which was way too drastic and we’ve tried Alejandro Junger’s 21 Day Clean Program which was way too long.
This year, we’re heeding the wise words of fellow blogger and nutritionist Leslie from Around the Table, who suggests a whole food meal plan along with some juicing as the best way to get clean in her recent post Go Ahead and Juice It!
When we came across Whole Living’s Action Plan with its delicious breakfast smoothies (there’s an app for that!) and make-ahead and big batch recipes, we knew we’d found the perfect spring cleanse.
Out with all the processed and sweetened food (and dairy and alcohol and coffee!) and in with the healthy grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes. Now, all we have to do is buy a juicer and cook up several batches of cleansing broth!
Do you clean up your diet as well as your closets?

Add a pop of color to brighten your days with a decorative pillow, or six! Enhance your décor with a bit of elegant embroidery and bold patterns.
Sweet treats in the afternoon cannot be missed as the weather warms up with delicately designed dessert plates.

A planned trip to Philadelphia last weekend ended up with an impromptu visit to the Flower Show celebrating all that is British and it was indeed, brilliant! Royal palace gates covered in English roses welcomed us and an allée of stately birch trees led us to Big Ben, standing tall among gardens beds filled with gorgeous hollyhocks, lupines, foxglove and more.
The best and brightest in the business competed in landscaping and floral arranging categories and captivated us with their imagination and creativity. From a charming cricket cottage (life size) to the nursery at Hogwarts (miniature), each representation was spot on.
Bouquets of all shapes and sizes were interspersed between the landscaped gardens while larger displays like store windows and window boxes had their own special corner. Even high school garden clubs took part in the exhibition and we were amazed by all the talent, young and old.
The Hamilton Horticourt was filled with award winning specimens that even we could be tempted to plant… and kill in the near future. Our time at the Flower Show was magical and we only wish we had more time to spend amidst the botanical beauty!
