The Velvet Touch

Christina Murphy – Velvet Day Bed

Growing up in the seventies in Belgium, velvet was a staple in our wardrobe and in our home.  From the little black velvet dresses with white lace collars and red sashes we wore every holiday season to the velvet covered sofas, daybeds and chairs that filled our country chateau, we’ve long admired a velvet touch.

Judging by what we’re seeing in home decor and on the runway, either velvet never really went out of style, or it’s making a comeback.  It’s the perfect accessory for the fall and we just love the cozy softness it brings to an outfit or home when the days get colder, especially in these autumnal hues!

  2. This is the perfect time of year to snuggle up to velvet! I have a velvet sofa and chairs and it is sooo cozy! I love that settee in that first picture – wish I had room to add something like that to our living room. Have a great weekend ladies!

  6. When I was a girl I think I had a velvet dress just like the ones you’ve described! I think I couldn’t help be happy with that orange Botega clutch in hand and the gray skies and drizzle out the window today make me wish we had a velvet sofa I could snuggle into in front of the fire!
    Happy weekend, ladies! XO

  7. Unfortunately, velvet would not work well in my house, with my furry friend, Charley. :)

I’m very tactile…so velvet is one of my favorite fabrics. I’ll bet you two were tres chic in your velvet dresses and big sashes!!!
