The National Cherry Blossom Festival opened last weekend and our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Japan. According to Buddhist tradition, the revered “sakura” symbolizes the fleeting nature of life…

Lovely thought and poem. And the Cherry Blossoms are such an integral part of the Washington landscape, it’s easy to forget where they originally came from!! I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know that’s what sakura meant – love learning something new!!
Just yesterday a friend and I were reminding one another that spring cherry blossoms fill our world with hope for which we are thankful for. Lovely sentiment especially during this time where we really must give thanks for how good life is for some and how incredibly painful it can be for others. Blossoms give each of us something good and pretty….now my son with spring allergies would beg to differ! Aachoo.

You have me dreaming of spring/summer again! The Cherry Blossom Festival is so amazing! The snow we are supposed to get tonight has me wishing I was on vacation.
Beautiful…one of my favourite trees…Thanks for reminding us about their origins, as someone else said it’s often easy to forget and sometimes even know (if you are abroad) where they came from.
