When Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring and fruit, was kidnapped and held captive by Hades in the underworld, she swore she would not eat until her release… but then she came across a pomegranate!
The Perfect Pomegranate - Martha Style!
According to the myth, she devoured almost the entire fruit, leaving only six seeds, which forced Persephone to spend six months of the year in the underworld once she had been released. The months she is away, her mother, Demeter, the goddess of harvest, grieves and the earth becomes barren and that’s why we have seasons (according to the Greeks, that is!)

I adore pomegranates, not only for their lovely taste, but also for decor, a bowl on a table always makes me think of winter, cranberries, roses, pomegranates and antioxidants, of course too.

I had never heard that little story!!! But, I love it all the same!! Poms are one of my favorites – from adding the seeds to a salad or making a little pomegrante cocktail. Love the photo of them used for place cards!

Love pomegrantes to eat and to put in a wooden bowl for the fall, they are so pretty. Inside they remind me of little jewels. The juice is yumo to drink with a little canada dry. Kathysue
I did not know this story!! But I love me a good pomegranate salad
I use: mixed greens, a sweet onion, the wonderful red seeds, and chunks of grapefruit. Cut and mix to taste!! Let it sit for an hour so the juices mix, then top with your fav dressing. I like to use either a balsamic vinaigrette or a mix of oil and vinegar.
