West Coast Dining Room
When we revisited Michael Smith’s New York City duplex for our Monday Mood this week, we were struck on how different this home’s decor is from his place in California. While his East Coast pad is inspired by 18th century France, his Holmby Hills contemporary (previously owned and built by a board member of the Museum of Contemporary Art to house her collection) is definitely more clean and modern.

Needless to say, Michael’s range with respect to interior design is all encompassing and what fun it must be to have two homes, one on each coast, both with very different personalities.
East Coast Dining Room
Michael takes bi-coastal to a whole new level and we wonder if he has two different wardrobes to match his homes… We definitely would!

How fun to be able to have two totally different homes. Love the New York apartment – chic and sophisticated, just like Michael.
I would most definitely guess yes! And I must admit I really liked his old CA home- while the more recent one is certainly chic, as is everything he does, there was something very special about the first.
The best of both worlds – that would be fun!

Both equally spectacular, but I prefer the west coast, a bit more relaxed and liveable.

Lucky him..to get to have the best of both. I love his east coast style more because it most resonates with my own but think both were done incredibly well. Hope alls well…missed being blogland and happy to be back!
This would be a great solution to my dual loves of more clean lined and contemporary AND traditional and layered.
If I had to pick (and in reality, I do!) it would be the East coast look.

I always tell my husband that I need a second house in the country and one at the beach so I can get my different decorating fixes. So far, no luck. But I’m working on it!
