Summer’s End

The Sun Sets on Summer

Sweet smell of phlox drifting across the lawn-
an early warning of the end of summer.
August is fading fast, and by September
the little purple flowers will all be gone.

Heading to the Hamptons to enjoy the last days of summer and we’ll see you just before September comes…  Happy Friday, all!

A Belated Baguette Birthday

Uncle Karl’s Vision

They say man cannot live on bread alone but we tend to disagree…  As little girls, we grew up on French baguettes in Belgium (and waffles, too) and now, as adults, we’re into Fendi’s fashion version (after all, calories do count these days!) which celebrated it fifteenth birthday last month.  This iconic purse was honored all over the world with celebrity-filled parties, a sketch by Karl Lagerfeld and even a book.

Baguette Jeans – Spring / Summer 2000

Over the years, Fendi has designed over 1,000 different styles and has partnered with many artists to create one-of-a-kind designs.

For the fall season, Fendi has re-issued some of it’s bestselling baguettes so we’ll definitely be looking into one of these…

Fall Preview: Modern Vintage

Wisteria – Updated Heirlooms

As we head into New York today to put the final touches on our booth at the International Gift Fair, we thought you might enjoy a sneak peak at our new Fall/Winter collection – Modern Vintage.  We all know that mixing the old with the new is not a recent trend in fashion or home decor but with the current popularity of the Fiat Abarth 500 and the “flea market meets loft chic” vibe of Restoration Hardware and Wisteria, we couldn’t help but design a collection that combines vintage and modern elements.  Juxtaposing different eras and styles provides both contrast and harmony in a room or in a home accessory and the more surprising the mix, the better.

Amaryllis and Orchid Bouquet in Crystal Bowl

That’s why we paired a contemporary bouquet of vibrant green hydrangea mixed with ranunculus and passion flowers with a textured cream vase, reminiscent of Laguna vintage pottery…

Mixed Green Bouquet in White Ceramic Vase

and a classic white phalaenopsis orchid in an orange porcelain planter with clean lines (hello, Tangerine Tango!)

Phalaenopsis in Tangerine Scholar Vase

Homes need a history and a truly modern space would look cold without some vintage charm and the opposite is equally true, since contemporary elements help vintage decor stay relevant.

Dahlia, Rose and Orchid Bouquet in Cane Vase

Luckily our designs complement both modern and traditional spaces, adding life and pops of color where needed.

P.S.  If you’re walking the show, please stop by our booth on Pier 94 – #42059 and say hi!

Pretty Pastels – Jil Sander Fall 2012

Antwerp-based Belgian florist extraordinaire Mark Colle has been busy this year…   especially when Raf Simons (who’s also Belgian) decides to have him create floral fantasies for not one, but two of his fashion shows.

Blooms in a Box

The first was for Raf’s last collection for Jil Sander back in March where beautiful blossoms were encased in glass boxes, seven in all, to mark the number of years he spent with the label.

Botanical Beauty

Mark then designed the fabulous floral rooms for Raf’s first couture collection under the Dior name that took the blogging and Twitter world by storm in early July.

Christian Dior – Couture 2012

Over a million fresh flowers were used to decorate a Parisian “hotel particulier” as a backdrop to a collection that paid homage to Mr. Dior’s “Flower Women” and passion for gardens.

Peonies, Dahlias, Carnations and Roses

It’s no wonder the audience was left breathless… even the video about the creation of the botanical bonanza is a sight to behold.

Orchids, Orchids and More Orchids

We’re torn as to which ravishing runway we like best…   Which do you prefer - container gardens or wallflowers?

Fab Feathered Finds

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Peacock Paperweight – Karen Adams

While flamingos have been getting a lot of press lately (our friend, Liz, from Shorely Chic even dedicates her Friday post to them), there are other feathered friends worth tweeting, squawking or crowing about… like the peacock or parrot.  And what better way to celebrate their pretty plumage than with some fab finds – a fine way to feather our nest in colorful style.

Fringed Frock – Dorothy Perkins

Downy Dangles – Aurelie Bidermann

Purse with Plumage – Tory Burch

Plumed Bangle – Nordstrom

Bathing Beauty – Lollia

Birds of a feather do flock together…  Happy Friday!

P.S.  Lanvin’s Paris windows are fringed and feathered, too…  Click here to see more.

Blossoms Abound – Spring 2011

We love H&M Home and after reading about the company’s collections season after season on Bright Bazaar and other blogs for years, we’re so excited to hear that the company is finally launching home accessories in the US after making their way through Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the U.K.  At last, we will experience first hand the fabulous finds we’ve been longing to have.

Pretty Petals for Spring 2012

In true runway to home style, H&M lovers will be able to decorate their homes the way they fill their closets – with the same “cheap chic” panache the company is known for in fashion.  Each season, this European import will produce three “trend” collections, introducing many coordinating accessories every two weeks.

Feminine Bohemian – Fall 2012

Fall 2012 – Authentic Tradition

Home Kids – Fall 2012

Having seen H&M collections online, we know we’re in for a treat…  Will you be shopping H&M Home in 2013?

Fruit and Flower Power

Guess who we’re seeing in concert tomorrow night at the Meadowlands?  Given our current very warm and humid weather, we thought we’d have some frozen fun … with ice cubes, that is.

Awesome Blossoms

Flowers on Ice

There’s something so festive in adding flowers or fruit to ice; it’s like dressing up your cocktail with some bling!
