When the likes of Jay Fielding (Town & Country Editor in Chief), mentions Elm, a local favorite, in the same breath as El Bulli, a Michelin 3-star restaurant on the Spanish Costa Brava (now sadly closed), you know it’s time to make a reservation… and fast! While El Bulli’s chef, Ferran Adria, was known to cook the most “imaginative haute cuisine on the planet” and put molecular gastronomy on the map, Elm’s Brian Lewis is a bit more traditional in his approach.
With a vast network of farmers and artisans, Brian has the freedom to compose seasonal daily menus, and his highly personal and creative American style shines through in every dish.
While we would opt for dining in the charming restaurant, Brian does offer customized tasting menus and cooking classes in the kitchen.
And for those of you who don’t live in the area, a visit to Elm’s website which includes sample menus and a gallery of pictures will have your mouth watering… We’re off to reserve now before it’s too late!

Our good friend, artist Frances Palmer, grows the most amazing dahlias in her garden and her love for these delightful blossoms has garnered her a wonderful nickname – the “Dahlia Lama!” While we’re a bit late with her advice on how to make dahlia bushes branch out and have more blooms (read it here for future reference), we’ve found some other dahlia-hued beauties to brighten your day!
Do you delight in dahlias as much as we do?

Peachy
Pronunciation: /ˈpēCHē/
Delightful, wonderful, excellent… We’re filled with Georgia peaches and happy that Getty Images decided to drop the fine.
P.S. Thank you to all who left comments and sent us emails regarding last week’s surprise post. For those who asked for a follow-up, here’s what we’ve learned:
- Just because a website has an image doesn’t mean the website owns the rights to that image
- Just because the Getty Images watermark is not present doesn’t mean that the image is available for use
- Blogs are considered commercial entities if they have paying advertisers and/or promote an online store
- According to the legal department at Getty, Pinterest is a “gray area” so if you use Pinterest as a source for images, you “may not be protected”
We saw an interesting interview with Getty’s CEO, Jonathan Klein, who enthusiastically promoted “visual literacy” through the use of Pinterest… until Pinterest starts making money… Read more here!

Something disturbing happened to us today and hence, a surprise second post. As you may recall, on our last visit to Atlanta, we had the great pleasure of meeting the fabulous Mary McDonald who so kindly autographed her book for a giveaway on The Buzz. We were so excited to be able to share The Allure of Style and amazing talent with you in a blog post which included images from Mary’s website. Little did we know that many of the pictures were licensed by Mary from Getty Images (there’s nothing on her site that would indicate this) and we received a letter in the mail fining us for using a photograph of one of her interiors.
Needless to say, while we were able to negotiate the fine down to $700 from $875, we’re still floored. Since launching The Buzz over three years ago, we’ve been very careful to attribute and link every image we use to its original source. Please know that this is not enough to protect you from copyright infringement and it’s scary to think that this could happen again… The only advice Getty could give us was to contact each and every photographer for permission before using an image in a blog post. What if this image were taken from Pinterest? Hmm…

It all started with The Nanny Diaries… Set designer Andrew Baseman came calling having “discovered” our designs at Bergdorf Goodman and we’ve been seeing stars ever since.
Next, we “auditioned” for the sets of Smash, which aired on NBC this spring, and on which Andy collaborated with production designer, Cabot McMullen.
Our Pink Chinese Cymbidium Orchid (featured in the hall above) makes a cameo in this show in the office of Broadway producer Eileen’s (played by Angelica Houston.) The room is based on a real office in the Brill Building (home to numerous songwriters over the years) and had to have a nouveau rich aura about it so our Chateau in Bordeaux Bouquet was added in a supporting role on the table (you can see just above the gentleman’s shoulder.)
Songwriter Julia’s home is more comfortable in feeling with a mix of modern and vintage furniture and accessories. Given that Debra Messing (who plays Julia) is highly allergic to fresh flowers, our faux fleurs appear in many scenes. In this one, our Hydrangea Blossom (sadly no longer available) can be seen on the left side on the console just above the couch.
And our red carpet days aren’t over with a new show being filmed as we write… 666 Park Avenue will debut this fall on ABC, hopefully with some Diane James flowers in starring roles!
