Eliane in British Vogue

… to Eliane Fattal for showing us how to repurpose our grandmother’s jewelry in a fun and fashionable way.  This “tumble-haired London visionary” has the knack of turning 19th century brooches and tiaras into rings, earring and hair clips and now her “Metamorphosis” collection is available at the venerable S.J. Phillips in London.  While we wouldn’t say no to this beautiful butterfly, we’re holding out for the ruby and diamond bee we saw in Vogue!

Floral Fashion… Then and Now

Inspired by Warhol

When Lynn from Decor Arts Now asked us to participate in her post about cultivating our personal style based the memory of our first room (a question prompted by Carlton Varney at the What’s New, What’s Next event at the NYDC last week), we couldn’t help but think back to the outfits our mother wore when in that room…

Diane von Furstenberg

One of our favorite dresses (which she still owns) is a Pucci floral shift that dates back to the early 1970′s.

Needless to say, we’re happy to see that pop art flowers are back in style for Spring 2012!

Windsor Smith - Backyard Beauty

What’s Next?  According to designer Windsor Smith, it’s the launch of her new outdoor fabric line with Kravet.  We had the chance to hear Windsor being interviewed by Pamela Jaccarino, Editor in Chief of LUXE Magazine, on Tuesday and see her new collection for ourselves.  Many of the designs are based on Windsor’s most popular indoor fabrics and have been tested to last the test of time (40,000 “rubs”!)

As we sat there nodding and smiling at what Windsor had to say, we jotted down a few memorable quotes such as “furniture should be like a member of your family; even the precious needs to be approachable.”

A Fabulous Foyer

“A designer should be part therapist, part shaman, and very funny (you have to be to slide those bills through!)… and above all, a facilitator of great experiences.”

"Tell Me About Your Childhood..."

“In designing a house, you should look at how you live today and how you can support that lifestyle with beautiful things.”

Pretty Petals

When asked which room she’d do away with, this self-described “lifestyle architect” immediately answered “the formal living room.”  She turned hers into a place where her teenage boys can hang, replete with comfy couches and a ping pong table.

Magnificent Man Cave

While we’re not ready to be so bold, we’re definitely thinking of tapping Windsor’s style and having her design some rooms.  With her Room in a Box website, that just may be possible!

Marvelous Michael

… to Michael Smith for his new book, Kitchens & Baths.  We can’t wait to see this devine designer’s style applied to two of the most challenging spaces to decorate (at least we think so since both the kitchen and master bath are due for facelifts soon!)

Wine Country and English Christmas

A Tuscan Landscape

Last fall, Diane spent a glorious week visiting her sister in the hills above Florence, strolling through the vineyards and olive groves and dining on the home-made pastas that the villa on Via di Terenzano is known for.

A Harvest of Grapes

She was so inspired by the colors found in the wine country - the rich plums and warm golden hues – that this palette became the foundation for this fall’s collection.

Wine Country

We had such fun pairing fall flowers with containers having a rustic feel – cubes that look like recycled glass bottles and “earthy” terracotta pots.

Nina Campbell at Home

Since the holiday season is so short, we prefer creating winter bouquets that don’t scream “Christmas” so they can be used throughout the season.  As we were designing the winter collection, preparations were underway for Kate and William’s wedding and we had just shipped our first order to Nina Campbell‘s (British royalty in our eyes) London store.

Nina Campbell's Table

How could we not evoke the elegance of an English Christmas in our winter collection, using lush flowers in beautiful glass and antiqued mirror vases to make bouquets fit for a Queen (or a newly-wed Prince and Princess!)

We’re excited to introduce our new Fall and Winter 2011 designs, now available on Diane James Home!
