Simple Sugared Roses

Simple Sugared Roses

Day four without power thanks to Irene and still no update as to when we might “see the light.”  Needless to say, with a house full of boys, things may be getting a bit stinky around here.  That’s why we thought this recent article from Vogue Living’s blog was such a breath of fresh air.

Step 1: Pluck Petals from Roses

Step 1: Pluck Petals from Roses

Eric Wolfinger‘s photography brings these sugared rose petals to life and the easy step by step recipe (a favorite of Alice Water’s) may just be the thing to entertain the kids…

Step 2: Carefully Paint with Egg Whites

After all, it’s in times like these that we need to be grateful for what we have and to stop and smell the roses!

Issue 08

Issue 08

… to the incredibly creative staff at Anthropologie for always coming up with catalogs that spark the imagination and tell a fashionable tale.  Issue 08 had us at “something about the city that night” so, of course, we read on: “the light through windows, the fall of rain, the quiet everywhere… made them see something in each other they had missed before.”  What a romantic way to showcase the new fall collection!

Helping Children Worldwide

Helping Children Worldwide

With school starting next week for many of us in the Northeast, the inevitable “back to school” shopping is taking place this week.  Armed with a list a mile long, throngs of moms (and perhaps some dads) will flock the stores to buy school supplies.

Joy is a Flower Jumbo Journal

But why do kids get to have all the fun?  This year, we’ll be investing in some journals and notebooks, too, and helping children in developing countries along the way… through ecojot‘s “buy 1, give 1″ program.

Rosettes Mini Notebook

Rosettes Mini Notebook

For every 5″ x 7″ journal, jumbo journal or sketchbook sold, ecojot will donate a school workbook or pencil to a child in need.  To date, the company has donated 70,000 notebooks to countries all over the world including Haiti, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Poland and Zimbabwe.

Made of acid and chlorine-free paper and board and vegetable-based inks and glues, an ecojot notebook is a whimsical addition to any desk or backpack.  Who wouldn’t want to own one of these delightful designs and feel good about going back to school?

Artel - Exquisitely Etched Glasses

Artel - Exquisitely Etched Glasses

With three hours to spare and aching feet, we hobbled over to the Jacob Javits Center on Wednesday to visit with some of our favorite companies.  While Heather at Habitually Chic saw lots of orange this season, we spied big, beautiful blossoms (perhaps that’s because we work with flowers all day long!)  From the classically pretty prints that Julian Mejia uses on his pillows and trays…

Molton Brown - Marvelous!

Molton Brown - Marvelous!

… to Stephanie (whose firm handles the PR for Molton Brown) for sending us a sample of the company’s new body hydrating gel.  Since we’re already huge fans of the vitalising vitamin AB+C bath & shower gel, we were excited see this addition to the collection (along with a delicious eau fraiche with notes of Italian mandarin, green fig and lemon tree – yum!)  And with too many days in the sun to count, our summer skin is loving this non-greasy gel, bursting with zesty anti-oxidant vitamins and white jojoba beads that lock in moisture and release an energizing citrus scent.
